Google is working on 4k support for Google Stadia on Android-based devices such as televisions. In addition, there will be HDR support, a chat system and the possibility to more easily show video captures and achievements to friends via links.

This is evident from an apk teardown done by 9to5Google. Stadia already has 4k support, but on certain platforms: the Chromecast Ultra and the Google Chrome browser. Step by step, Google is introducing new features to its game streaming service and bringing them to more platforms. In addition to the above features, the APK also talks about a 5.1 sound toggle. It is admittedly an Android app, so one might think that these features are coming to phones, but the wording suggests that it concerns external displays.

At the moment it is only possible to chat with contacts via voice, but texts in the apk indicate that it will soon be possible to talk to other users via text. There are also references to direct messages, so private messages.

Google Stadia is currently available on the Chromecast Ultra, Google Chrome browser, specific smartphone models including the Google Pixel and Chrome OS. On the most widely supported platforms, Stadia can be displayed in 4k, 60fps, 5.1 sound with HDR. This level of quality does require a Stadia Pro subscription. That costs 10 euros per month.
