Google has released its first feature drop for its Pixel 8 phones. The upgrade adds Video Boost, the function to improve videos in the cloud. There is also a repair mode.

In addition to Video Boost, there will also be a function for Timelapse videos in the dark, Google reports. It was already clear that both video functions would be available, but now they are actually available. Both functions only work with an internet connection, because the software uploads the video. The edits are then made in the cloud and users receive the video back in a modified form.

In addition, Pixel phones will have a repair mode. This allows repairers to test phone functions without having to access data. Other phones, including Samsung’s, have had such a mode for some time.

Other previously promised features are also included in the upgrade. This allows users to use their phone as a webcam, something that until now required an app. The feature drop is coming to all supported Pixel phones, the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Watch models. Google releases such upgrades every three months.
