Google has officially released version 72 of its Chrome OS after it became available in beta late last year. One of the new features is that the voice and information service Assistant can now be used.

To be precise, it is version number 72.0.3626.97. On its blog, Google announced that this version has been put on the Stable channel; Chrome OS 72 has been available as beta since late last year, but is now also out for the general public. Installing the update will give users built-in support for Assistant, among other things; that’s something that has only been built into its own Chromebooks by Google so far.

Furthermore, the Android support has been increased to version 9, while the previous version still had to do with Android 7. In addition, picture-in-picture mode is better integrated and is now on by default when playing a locally stored video file.

Chrome OS 72 also sees the introduction of USBGuard, which means that a Chromebook will now ignore USB connections when the device is locked. This should prevent hackers from trying to penetrate, for example, with malware on a USB stick.
