Google Play Movies & TV customers will have to request content differently from January 17

Google will pull the plug on Google Play Movies & TV on January 17, 2024. The company reports that users who have purchased films, series or shows via this app will soon have to request the content in a different way.

Customers using a television or streaming device running Android TV will have to navigate to the Shop tab in the interface starting January 17. There it must be according to Google then click on the ‘Your Library’ button to view and retrieve all purchased content.

Customers who use a media or set-top box from a provider with Android TV must open the YouTube app to find purchased films or series. It is unclear where exactly the content will be found. From January 17, 2024, users who want to retrieve their purchased content via the web browser will also have to do so via the YouTube website.

Google has Google TV introduced in 2022. The app was eventually supposed to replace the Google Play Movies & TV application. Through the app, users can get an overview of previous purchases, other active subscriptions to streaming services, and films, series and shows that the user has already watched.
