Google Maps comes out for Apple Watch

Google Maps has again been released for the Apple Watch. The app disappeared from the Apple watch three years ago, but is now back. There are no maps in the app, but there are directions. Apple Maps does have maps on the watch.

The app is included with the iOS version with version number 5.52 in the App Store, 9to5Google writes. Entering a location is only possible on a connected iPhone, after which the Watch shows the route with large maps. Google had already announced that the app was coming back.

Google withdrew Apple Watch apps from the App Store in the spring of 2017. Since then it has not been possible to use the map service on the watch. Google hasn’t said why the app is coming back right now. Apple is presumably about to announce a new model of Apple Watch. The manufacturer has an event scheduled for next Tuesday.
