Google is working on generative AI in Assistant

Google is working on integrating generative AI into Assistant. The company has already started that work in the mobile app. It is not a direct implementation of Bard, but a new technology.

Google writes in an internal email that it sees a great opportunity “to investigate what a supercharged Assistant based on the latest llm technology would look like.” The company says that it is now being worked on internally, with the mobile variant being worked on first. However, its current status is not yet known. The internal email was sent to employees on Monday and published by Axios.

Google wants to implement its large language model technologies in Assistant. It is not clear what this will look like in practice. In any case, Google does not explicitly mention an integration of Bard, the company’s current chatbot. Bard is the end product of llm technology and this can therefore be different for Assistent.

Since Google released Bard, it has long been unclear how that tool compares to the current smart assistant. It only seemed logical that the two would eventually be merged in some form, but Google was always vague about how.
