Google is working on full-screen ads on smartphones

Google’s AdMob mobile ad network is working on new full-screen ads that app providers can integrate. Users must click away from the ad to continue what they are doing.

This concerns a total of four types of new mobile advertisements, Google has announced to the trade magazine AdAge. This includes a full-screen text ad, but also a full-screen ad with video. The latter type of ad could be integrated by game makers for some time, but is now also available for other types of ads.

App makers could already build so-called interstitials into their apps, but now that Google’s ad network will offer the ad types itself, it seems likely that they will appear more often.

At the same time, AdMob is introducing a new kind of ad for mobile websites. It is a small banner with text that is shown at the bottom of the page and has been used for some time, but with an important difference: the ad remains in the same position, even if the user scrolls.
