Google has recently expanded its team that is working on its own chips, which is apparent from LinkedIn profiles and vacancies. The search giant has hired at least 16 chip designers in India.

Reuters news agency writes about the expansions in response to the vacancies and profiles, but the news agency also quotes an expert from a research agency that follows the chip industry. Google is said to have hired several chip designers in Bangalore. Traditional chip manufacturers have been active in that city in India for a long time.

Google has hired 16 experienced designers from other companies such as Qualcomm, Broadcom and Nvidia. There are also thirteen vacancies. Google does not want to comment on the appointment of the new people to Reuters. It is not clear what exactly the new employees are targeting.

Google has been working on its own chips for some time, just like other large tech giants. Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and Facebook, among others, are working on their own hardware. For the time being, Google’s own hardware has mainly been used in servers and for deep learning, but in 2017 the company hired a chip designer from Apple and Google has previously indicated that it wants to make socs for smartphones itself.
