Google enables Pixel 6a bootloader unlock with update

Google is going to enable unlocking the bootloader on the Pixel 6a via a software update. Shortly after shipping, there was no option available to do that, but the first over-the-air update brings that capability to the phones.

The Pixel 6a is now being delivered to the first pre-order customers in countries such as America. On forums like that from XDA users noticed that the bootloader of the device could not be unlocked. This occurs with telephones that are supplied via the provider in America. In the Developer Options menu, the button for OEM unlocking is grayed out and unavailable.

Google now says to Android Police hope it fixes that issue in an upcoming software update. That over-the-air update is already out now and will be released to all users in the next week, depending on their carriers. That update makes the bootloader unlockable everywhere. The company doesn’t write that in the patch notes, and it’s not clear if it’s a bug or if the unavailability was planned.
