Google Assistant stops support for the first version of the Philips Hue bridge

Google Assistant will soon no longer work for owners of a first-generation Phillips Hue bridge. The decision to discontinue support follows after manufacturer Signify turned off the internet functions on the bridge some time ago.

The Review Geek website noted that Google Assistant gives users audible warnings if they try to control their Hue lights via a v1 bridge. This makes it clear that after June 22 it will no longer be possible to control Hue lamps via voice. It is still possible to switch lamps on and off via the app, as long as it is in the same network.

A few months ago, Signify announced that it would stop supporting the internet functions on the Philips Hue Bridge v1. Since April 30, it is no longer possible to operate the smart lamps via the internet.

Initially, it was intended that Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa would no longer work on that date, but so far this functionality is still active. And although Assistant will no longer work from June 22, Alexa seems to offer support for even longer. Signify recommends users upgrade to v2 of the bridge, which would be more future-proof.
