GitHub starts certification program with four disciplines

GitHub has set up its own certificate program. The platform currently has four different certifications that allow users to prove they are experts in multiple disciplines after an exam.

GitHub already had that certification program for its own employees and for certain ‘partners’, but the platform says now that it makes that program generally available. With the program, developers can prove that they are experts in certain disciplines within the platform. GitHub, through Microsoft’s Learn platform, has learning resources made available for interested parties.

The platform offers four certifications. GitHub Foundations is a certification in which participants learn general knowledge about GitHub and git. In addition, there is GitHubActions, which is about programming workflows and pipelines. The Advanced Securitycertification is about securing code and teaches developers dependency management and how to scan for secrets. That certificate is mainly for developers in business environments, says GitHub. Finally, there is the Administrationcertificate, which teaches users to set up and manage their own GitHub environment.

It costs $200 to take an exam. Re-exams cost $200 each time. Users must leave 48 hours between exams and may take them a maximum of five times. GitHub partners with PSI to administer the exams and provide proctoring.
