There are now 250 million players for Fortnite, Epic Games has announced. That was 200 million four months ago. According to Epic Games, the success of competitor Apex Legends has no effect on the popularity of Fortnite for the time being.

On an average, 10.8 million people play the game simultaneously, director Tim Sweeney told Engadget and in his keynote at the Game Developer Conference. Sweeney claims to have seen numbers showing that 35 percent of players are female, which is said to be higher than other shooters. Sweeney’s figures do not match those of previous publications, which estimate the percentage of female players at between 16 and 25 percent.

Apex Legends doesn’t seem to stand in the way of Fortnite’s growth. “Since Apex Legends came out, we’ve increased the amount of total Apex Legends players in Fortnite,” Sweeney told Venturebeat. According to Sweeney, the release of Fifa last year caused a small drop in playing time.

Fortnite came out about two years ago, as the second known battle royale game after PUBG. Epic Games also put a service online on Thursday that allows other game developers to use the online services that Epic has developed. The SDK supports, among other things, massive player matching, voice chat and cloud storage, and tracking data about a game.
