For the first time in its history, Nvidia generated more revenue from data center GPU sales than from GeForce GPU sales for gamers in the past quarter. The company achieved record sales of $ 3.87 billion.

The sale of GPUs for data centers generated $ 1.75 billion for Nvidia in the past three months. That is an increase of 167 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. GeForce GPU sales also grew, but less strongly. Nvidia had quarterly revenues of $ 1.65 billion with its gaming division, an increase of 26 percent.

It is the first time that Nvidia has generated more revenue in a quarter from its data center activities than from gaming. In recent years, data center GPUs have become increasingly important to Nvidia, and in the previous quarter data center revenue was almost equal to gaming revenue. A year ago, the turnover from the gaming part was more than twice as high as that from the data center part.

Nvidia generated less turnover from its automotive part. The division that makes chips for cars had quarterly sales of $ 111 million. That is 47 percent less than in the same quarter last year. Nvidia’s total quarterly sales amounted to $ 3.87 billion, or about 3.27 billion euros. Never before has the company brought in so much money in three months. The net profit amounted to $ 622 million, or about 524 million euros.
