Firmware Update: Cowon iAudio S9 2.31 Beta

It’s now been over a month since Cowon, the maker of the iAudio media players, released a beta version of its 2.30 firmware for the S9. Shortly after the 2.30 beta, Cowon promoted this version to final, and now it’s time for version 2.31.

Contrary to what the small step of the version number suggests, quite a few changes have been made in the new version, according to the textual changelog shown below. Also the visual changelog of Cowon is worth seeing. It shows what has changed and how it can be used.

By copying the three files, supplied as .zip, to the root of the MP3 player and then disconnecting the device from the PC, the player will update to version 2.31 within minutes, which will provide the following innovations and improvements includes:

– Added the typist feature that is a notepad with a keyboard.
– Improved receiving quality, compatibility, and performance of Bluetooth.
– Support gapless playback in lossless music files (WAV, FLAC, APE, and Lossless WMA) and OGG files.
– Support M3U.
– Support AVI files that are damaged.
– Fixed the error that frame color wasn’t changed in document mode.
– Fixed some minus operation error in calculator.
– Support Thai.

– Functionality that recognizes M3U files that are created in PC.

Support M3U
– M3U folder will be created in ‘playlist’ from the top menu of browser when you copy .m3u files into Cowon S9.
– Cowon S9 recognizes up to 400 M3U files.
– Cowon S9 recognizes up to 400 lists in M3U.
– ONLY support extended M3U.
