Facebook removes option for old desktop site design next month – update

Facebook is removing the option to use the old design on desktops and laptops next month. From then on, all users will have to switch to the new design, which Facebook has been releasing to users in phases since May of this year.

The old design, which Facebook itself refers to as ‘classic Facebook’, is slower, according to the company, and does not support dark mode. Facebook does not say exactly on which date the old option will disappear in the notification that Techtsp has put online, only that this will happen in September. With this notification, Facebook wants to encourage users to switch to the new design now.

Facebook began rolling out the new design to users in phases in May, following beta testing. Facebook already announced at its F8 developer conference in 2019 that it was working on a new design for the desktop site.

Update, 8:00 PM: Clarifies that not all users need to have the redesign option yet as it is a phased rollout.
