Facebook pays companies to use video streaming service Live

Facebook pays media companies to use its live streaming service Facebook Live. That has been confirmed by the social network. American media such as the New York Times newspaper, Buzzfeed and the parent company of The Verge, among others, would be paid.

According to Recode, part of the same Vox Media that The Verge is part of, Facebook uses the payment, among other things, because media companies are currently unable to place ads with live videos. Facebook Live is the service of the social network to enable live streaming of camera images.

Facebook confirms to the site that “a financial incentive” is part of the collaboration with partner companies. Recode is based on the list of companies that are presumably paid on anonymous sources. According to the site, it is special that Facebook pays companies to try out new features.

The social network presented Live last December. It takes more measures to promote use of the service. For example, Facebook’s algorithm favors live videos in users’ feeds to attract more audiences.

Facebook introduced new live features on Wednesday, such as a video tab on the site and live filters for streaming.
