Facebook earns $2.28 per month per European user – update

Facebook earns about $2.28 per user in Europe. This means that a user in Europe yields much less than in the United States and Canada, where Facebook earns 7 dollars per month from a user. This is evident from the latest quarterly figures.

That $2.28 is currently converted about 1.83 euros per month. Facebook mentions the figures in its third-quarter 2017 statistics, when presenting its quarterly figures. It states that the social networking company earned $6.85 per European user for the entire quarter, slightly above the global average of about $5.

The difference between Europe and the US, where a user earns more than three times as much, probably lies in the number of advertisers and the money they spend on the social network. The average also includes income from other Facebook networks such as Instagram and WhatsApp.

Facebook now reports 2.07 billion users who are active each month, an increase of 16 percent in a year. Of them, 1.36 billion log in every day. Revenue last quarter was more than ten billion dollars, which is the first time. Virtually all revenue came from advertisements, and almost 90 percent of that came from advertisements on smartphones. The company estimates that it will earn more in the coming years from advertisements for videos, including through its new Watch service. Net income rose 79 percent to $4.7 billion.

The social network also reported that the number of fake and clone accounts on Facebook is much higher than the company itself previously thought: about 13 percent. About 10 percent of accounts are owned by someone who already has another account on Facebook, Facebook says in its discussion of its quarterly results. Another 3 percent is fake and owned by non-existent persons. Both types of accounts are banned under Facebook’s rules and must go. In total, it is estimated that there are between 245 and 270 million accounts.

The increase in the estimate is because Facebook has started counting in a different way, but the company does not disclose how exactly it arrives at that estimate. The company immediately knew concrete examples of accounts that do not comply with the rules.
