Facebook is coming with a desktop app for Messenger. There will be versions for Windows and macOS. The social network is currently testing the software, which will be available later this year. Facebook is also working on a faster mobile version of Messenger.

According to Facebook, the desktop version of Messenger will have the same functionality as the mobile versions. Functionality such as video calling in groups, collaborating on projects and multitasking in the Messenger app will also become available. When the desktop client will be released is not yet clear, but it will be sometime this year.

At the same time, Facebook announces Project LightSpeed. Under that heading, the company is working on a new version of the Messenger app for smartphones, which should above all be faster. The new app would launch in 2 seconds and be less than 30MB in size when installed. The current version is 100MB in size. LightSpeed ​​is built from the ground up with new code. Therefore, it will be a long time before it is ready, Facebook says. It is not yet known when the app will be released.

Messenger also gets new functionality, such as an environment where users can see Stories, images and videos from friends. In addition, there will be a function in the chat app that allows users to watch videos together. This functionality is currently being tested and will be released this year.
