The Swedish network company Ericsson has said it will not be present at Mobile World Congress, the telecom fair that is scheduled for the end of June in Barcelona. The network company is one of the larger exhibitors at the fair.

Ericsson says in a statement to El Espanol that the risk is high, because visitors come from 120 countries and not everyone will be vaccinated. That is why the provider does not yet consider it responsible to participate in the fair. Ericsson is one of the largest exhibitors and was one of the first companies to cancel last year.

Last year LG canceled on February 5, Ericsson followed on February 7. The fair, which should have taken place at the end of February, was the first tech fair that was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

Umbrella organization GSM Association announced on Monday its measures to allow the fair to continue at the end of June with 50,000 visitors. MWC had 109,000 visitors in 2019. With, among other things, test and vaccination certificates, temperature checks and on-site rapid tests, the fair should be able to continue safely, according to the organization.

According to the Spanish newspaper, more exhibitors have doubts about participating and providers, among others, are urging to postpone the fair until the autumn. Another cancellation would mean the end of the telecom exchange, the newspaper speculates.
