Electronics Arts confirms that a mobile version of Apex Legends is coming. The publisher is working on this in collaboration with a Chinese partner. The mobile version will be released worldwide. It is not yet known when Apex Legends will come to smartphones and tablets.

Last year, EA said that negotiations were at an advanced stage. Now the publisher confirms that the mobile version of Apex Legends is coming. Blake Jorgensen, chief operating officer at the publisher, confirms in an explanation of the quarterly figures that there is now a collaboration with a partner from China.

It is not known which Chinese company EA has partnered with for the mobile version of Apex Legends. Analyst Daniel Ahmand notes that EA is already working with Tencent for the release of FIFA Online 4 and Need for Speed Online in China. Perhaps Tencent is also the partner providing the mobile version of Apex Legends.

The Chinese partner will not only provide the mobile version of Apex Legends, but will also launch the PC version in China. The variant for smartphones and tablets will be released worldwide. EA is not the first Western publisher to partner with a Chinese company for the mobile version of a popular game. Activision has partnered with Tencent for Call of Duty: Mobile and Blizzard has partnered with NetEase for Diablo Immortal.

EA has not yet announced when the mobile version of Apex Legends will be released. Jorgensen says there is still uncertainty about this and therefore no financial predictions have been made yet, but he states that there are ‘many opportunities’.

Good sales of Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, among other things, gave EA good figures in the past quarter. The publisher expects to have sold ten million copies of the game by the end of the fiscal year, which ends on March 31. The original expectation was that six to eight million copies would be sold.

EA had revenue of $1.59 billion in the quarter. Last year that was $1.29 billion in the same period. Net income was $346 million, compared to $262 million in the comparable quarter last year.
