Samsung has announced the release of the E6 for the US market. This e-reader has a 6-inch e-ink screen and offers access to the Barnes & Noble bookstore. You have to pay $300 for the device.

Samsung’s e-reader was previously shown at CES. The manufacturer lets know that the device will be released in the United States in April or May, but does not say anything about a possible European release. $300 is required for the E6.

Previously, there was talk of a collaboration with Google to offer e-books, but Samsung reports that the company has entered into business with the American bookstore Barnes & Noble. The built-in e-book store allows users to download digital books, magazines and newspapers via WiFi or Bluetooth. It is also possible to download content via the PC. There is also a built-in option to exchange content: users of Samsung’s e-reader will probably be able to lend books to each other for a certain period of time. There is also the option to synchronize data with Outlook.

The E6 has a striking appearance: the control buttons can be extended, so that most of the surface of the device is taken up by the screen. There are only two buttons on the housing to scroll forward and back. The touchscreen can be operated with the supplied stylus, but does not respond to finger input. The stylus works with electromagnetic resonance and can also be used to write on the screen.

Samsung’s e-reader has an e-ink screen with a diagonal of 6 inches and 800×600 pixels, and the device is also equipped with 2GB of storage space. There is support for pdf/a, a stripped-down version of pdf, in which, for example, no audio, video or Javascript may occur. In addition, the device supports epub, txt, bmp and jpg formats. The built-in speakers allow the user to read books or play MP3s.
