Anonymous: 22606 informed us that new drivers are available for all VIA onboard sound cards. As notes accompanying the June 24 release:

These drivers are for all Microsoft Operating systems. Microsoft no longer provides driver certification for Win95/98/98SE/NT, however the driver below still supports these operating systems – but there is no certification logo for these operating systems in the driver.

This driver supports all VIA southbridges with integrated sound, including VT8231, VT82C686A, VT82C686B, VT8233, VT8233A, VT8233C and VT8235.

This driver supports DOS sound for VIA VT82C686A, VT82C686B and VT8231 southbridges only.

This driver was published on 24 June 2002. Prior to 24 June 2002, there was driver 74mu170a for VT8233, VT8233A, VT8233C and driver 68MU220b for VT686A, 686B & VT8321. This new driver combines those two drivers into the one package and adds support for the new VT8235 southbridge. The 74mu170a drivers had a sampling rate issue which caused sound distortion in some circumstances. This issue has been fixed with this driver release. If you already have the 68MU220b drivers installed on your system there is no need to upgrade to these new drivers.
