Diamond Viper II Z200 owners can look forward to a new Win9x driver update for their Savage2000 video card. You can take down the driver here, but when you get tired of all that simple English you can also down the French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish version of the Diamond FTP. Here’s the most relevant info from the release notes:

5. Known Issues



If problems occur with high resolution 32bpp modes, lower the

refresh, resolution or color depth.

You may need to reinstall DirectX 7.0 after installing

these drivers for full DirectDraw and Direct3D support. this

This driver enables Transformation and Lighting. using this

feature may result in visual anomalies. Performance increases or

decreases are dependent on your system speed and applications.

6. Known Limitations



This driver is optimized for DirectX7. It is not optimized for

DirectX 6.1, however it has been tested and runs, with limitations

noted, on operating systems with either DirectX version installed

By design if both a CRT and a TV are attached and powered on,

both will be detected and Windows will boot to simultaneous

TV & CRT display. The TV must be powered off for Windows to

boot to CRT only.

SECAM is not supported.

Only one overlay surface is available in hardware. If a second

overlay stream is attempted, the video stream will play

through GDI.

Certain applications, such as Quake III, may not return properly

from APM’s Monitor Shutdown. Such applications will need to be

restarted to recover. Currently, you will need to disable APM before

running affected applications.

The Gamma utility has no effect on Flat Panel Displays.

By design, Flat Panel and TV will not operate at the same time.

ICT will not be fully functional with COMCTRL32.DLL version 4.70 and

earlier. This may impact Windows 95 platforms. The problems

experienced will included :

1) The InControl Desktop Properties will not execute.

2) The InControl Desktop Manager will not execute.

3) The Diamond 3D page will not execute.

To resolve this issue you can do one of the following:

1) Install a later version of COMCTRL32.DLL from the Microsoft Web

site. It is part of a self-extracting executable (50comupd.exe)

which can be downloaded from Microsoft’s webpage through the link

Download the latest version, currently select the option

“Download 50comupd.exe (x86)” 0.49 MB.

2) Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later.

Zoran software may not install on Windows 95 and OSR2 systems.

Zoran and S3/Diamond are aware of this issue.

InControl Tools (ICT)99:

InControl Tools 99 shortcuts require a system reboot to take

effect when running under Windows 98.

Diamond ICT99 “Internet Sites” popup requires IE3.0 or above or

Netscape Communicator 4.51 or above.

After uninstalling the Update Wizard with Windows 950a or 950b,

reboot your machine to remove Start Menu entries.
