Driver Update: ATI Catalyst Linux Display Driver 9.8

AMD has released new Linux drivers for its ATI Radeon video cards. The download is 91.7MB in size and can be used for both 32bit and 64bit environments. Version 9.8 is compatible with Radeon HD2400, Mobility X2300 and FireGL V3600 and above. Other system requirements are versions 6.8 through 7.4 of X.org, Linux kernel 2.6 and glibc versions 2.2 or 2.3. In this release, full support has been added for version 4.8 of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and 9.04 of Ubuntu. Furthermore, support for the Resize and Rotate Extension of X Windows has been added, making it possible to rotate the display, among other things:

ATI Catalyst 9.8 driver for Linux

This release of ATI Catalyst driver for Linux introduces support for the following new operating systems:

  • RHEL 4.8 production support
  • Ubuntu 9.04 production support

This release of the ATI Catalyst driver for Linux introduces support for the RandR 1.2 extension API. The following new features are now available in the ATI Catalyst Control Center – Linux Edition Display Manager:

  • Display rotation
  • Multiple display arrangement and desktop sizing
