Driver Update: ATi Catalyst AMD64 beta 2

Video card maker ATi recently released new Catalyst drivers in beta 2 released for AMD64 systems running Windows XP 64-bit. This update follows the first beta version made available in May 2004. Catalyst AMD64 beta 2 is out this location and consists of the display driver and the control panel. Unfortunately, this release will not work with all Radeon graphics cards, but will work with the 9500, 9600 XT, 9700 Pro, 9800 and Xx00 series cards. It is unknown what changes ATi has made in the second beta version. However, the following known issues can be found in the release notes

  • Having the option Link Time Code Generation enabled results in an error message indicating that there is Insufficient Destination Size for Storage
  • Entering the display properties and unchecking the option to Use DDC Information results in a dialog box being displayed indication Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close
  • Setting the system BIOS to either S1 or S3 power saving state results in a Windows system error message when attempting to restart from hibernation mode
  • Installing the ATI software driver under Windows XP64 AMD results in the TV option tab not being displayed
  • Neither the Reduce DVI Frequency on High Resolution Displays option or the DVI Alternate Operating Mode option is currently available when connecting a flat panel capable of 1600×1200 display resolution
  • Clicking on the Change/Remove button found in the Add/Remove programs currently displays the bus type information as N/A
  • Currently, once the display driver has competed its’ installation, a reboot message appears even though the ATI control panel is still being installed [break]
