6px; height:52px;” title=”ATi logo (small)” alt=”ATi logo (small)” /> ATi has now made its Catalyst 4.10 drivers suitable for Windows 98 and Me, but these drivers are only suitable for the following products: Radeon 7×00, 8500 and 9×00 series and therefore not for the newer X series. The drivers do not have a WHQL certificate as Microsoft has stopped doing this for Windows 98 and Me since the beginning of this year. Is this certificate important to you, then ATi recommends you version 4.3 to use. The release notes for this driver can be read on this page and the changelog looks like this:

Fixed in this driver:

  • Colin McRae Rally 04: Configuring the game to 1280×960 32bpp along with FSAA enabled and FSAA Quality set to 01 results in an error message when applying the changes
  • Far Cry: Starting the game under Windows 98/98SE with an ATI RADEON 9200 installed and the game video options set to high no longer results in the game failing to start
  • Rise of Nations: The game no longer fails to respond when setting the display device to its maximum display resolution and the D3D slider found in the ATI 3D tab to optimal quality
  • The ATI Advanced SMARTGART tab can now be launched by selecting Start->Run and entering the command smartgart
  • Changing the AGP write speed from 4x to 1x no longer results in the Windows 98/98SE operating system failing to load when an ATI RADEON 9500 is installed
  • The video BIOS and memory information is now displayed when clicking the Detail button found in the ATI Options tab within the ATI Control Panel
  • Connecting a television as the secondary display device and selecting the option to Extend My Windows Desktop on to this Monitor now results in the television display becoming enabled
