DJI releases Osmo Action 4 camera with 1/1.3″ sensor for 430 euros
DJI announces the Osmo Action 4 action cam with a 1/1.3″ sensor. This is the same sensor as in the Mini 3 Pro and Air 3 drones. The Osmo Action 4 can record in up to 4k120 and is available from 430 euros.
The larger 1/1.3″ sensor should provide better performance in low-light situations. For comparison: the DJI Osmo Action 3 has a 1/1.7″ sensor and the GoPro Hero 11 Black has a 1/ 1.9″ sensor. The Osmo Action 4 also uses the same 155-degree field of view and an aperture of f/2.8. Furthermore, the action cam has the same 1770mAh battery as its predecessor. That should be good for 150 minutes of recordings.
Not much has changed in terms of design with the Osmo Action 4. The record button can be found at the top of the action cam and the on/off button is on the side. There is also a USB-C port and a microSD slot. The Osmo Action 4 has no internal memory. On the front, the camera has a 1.4″ display of 320×320 pixels. On the back there is a screen of 360×640 pixels. Both displays have a peak brightness of 750 nits.
The standard recording mode again records videos in 4k120. The resolution when taking photos is somewhat lower, namely 3648×2736 pixels instead of 4000×3000 pixels of its predecessor. The quality is also lower with 4:3 images, namely 3840×2880 pixels instead of 4096×3072 pixels. In addition to 4k120, the GoPro Hero 11 Black can also shoot 5.3k images at 60 frames per second. The 10-bit color mode D-Log M should increase the dynamic range somewhat compared to the Action 3.
The Osmo Action 4 also has DJI’s image stabilization Rocksteady 3.0 and 3.0+. HorizonSteady is also available, which ensures that the horizon remains level despite movements. This feature works at a maximum of 2.7k. Furthermore, the HorizonBalancing feature corrects horizontal tilt within 45 degrees.
