Disney+ supports Dolby Atmos on Nvidia Shield TV

Users of a Shield TV device from Nvidia can now stream Dolby Atmos when using Disney+. The audio functionality is enabled for both the 2019 Shield TV models as well as the 2015 and 2017 systems.

The Dolby Atmos support is enabled on the server side. Nvidia guarantees that the audio functionality for spatial playback will work on all Shield TV systems if they have updated the firmware and are using the latest version of the Disney+ app. For the 2015 and 2017 versions of the Shield TV, this will be firmware version 8.0.2 and for the 2019 models it will be firmware version 8.1.1.

If users don’t have the new firmware yet, they can get it via system upgrade, on the about page in the settings. A user reports on the Shield TV forum that his Disney+ app is not updated, but it still has Dolby Atmos support. According to an Nvidia employee, the app was also already prepared for the arrival of support, and it only had to be activated via the server.
