Diablo II: Resurrected has the same difficulty level as the original. The remaster of the twenty-year-old game remains equally difficult, Blizzard emphasizes. The developer wants to take away the concern among fans that too much would change in the game.

In an interview with IGN, Blizzard developer Rob Gallerani emphasized that Diablo II: Resurrected is not intended to be any easier than the original: “There’s a difference between making the game easier and making the game easier to play,” Gallerani said.

By making Diablo “easier to play”, he’s referring to minor improvements, such as automatically picking up gold instead of the player having to pick it up with a mouse click. The enemies in the game remain equally strong and players still have to make choices when it comes to managing the limited inventory space.

To make players feel like they’re really playing the same game they were 20 years ago, Blizzard has also built in a feature that allows you to switch between the game’s classic graphics and new graphics. A feature that we also saw earlier in the remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Last year Blizzard released a new version of Warcraft III. Warcraft III: Reforged received a lot of criticism upon release, because the game contained many bugs. Blizzard seems to want to prevent this with Diablo II: Resurrected by having the game tested by fans of the game before. For example, a first alpha test took place at the beginning of April.

In addition, the original Diablo II will remain playable via Battle.net. Warcraft III: Reforged removed the ability to play the original via Blizzard’s launcher, which fans didn’t thank the company for.

Diablo II: Resurrected is set to release later this year for Windows, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
