Hi-Rez Studios, the developer of moba game Smite, is working on a new project. The studio makes another moba, although this time it is a game that involves shooting. Paladins will be playable for free and will be available for Windows and unspecified consoles.

Hi-Rez Studios, in its own words, combines ‘a rich fantasy setting with the fast-paced action of a team-based first person shooter’ in Paladins. Still, Paladins becomes a moba because players level up during a match, in this case by collecting cards. This allows players to customize the properties of their game character. Paladins will be playable for free and will be released for Windows and unspecified consoles. When is unknown. The game is playable during GamesCom, the fair in Cologne that starts later this week.

Paladins isn’t the first moba to be delivered by Hi-Rez Studios. The studio is best known for Smite, which appeared for Windows in 2014. A version for Xbox One is currently in beta testing. Before the studio developed moba games, it made team-based shooters like Tribes Universe and Tribes: Ascend.
