Warren Spector, chief executive behind the original Deus Ex game and System Shock, joins Otherside Entertainment. At Otherside, Spector becomes the leader of the team working on System Shock 3. He was already an advisor to the studio.

Currently, Spector is a lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, but once the semester is over, he will fully join Otherside Entertainment. At the studio, he will take the position of one of the studio presidents and provide support in the development of Underworld Ascendant. That game is the successor to the Ultima series that Spector has also worked on. He then takes the lead in developing System Shock 3.

Spector was the producer of the original System Shock, an action role-playing game from 1994. In the game, the player explores a space station, where puzzles must be solved and enemies such as robots and mutants must be eliminated. Expansion on the game ceased with a sequel in 1999 and an enhanced version of the first System Shock in September 2015. In December, Otherside Entertainment announced it had the rights to System Shock 3.

Otherside is a studio founded by Paul Neurath. He was also the founder of Looking Glass Studios, creator of the original System Shock. So the connection to the original game is now strengthened with the addition of Warren Spector. He is known for creating games where the player’s choices affect how the game progresses, such as Deus Ex.
