Debian version 8.1 released
The developers of the Linux distribution Debian have released the first update for the 8.0 version ‘Jessie’. The update is primarily intended to fix bugs, security vulnerabilities, and other minor and major issues that have surfaced in recent months.
Debian 8.0 users who have always kept up with the updates need not do anything, as most of the patches from this release have already been implemented through updates. The latest downloadable installation media now includes the 8.1 version.
The release has a newer linux kernel, which is version number 3.16.7-ctk11. Fixed an ext4 bug in this kernel that could cause errors in data in rare cases. The queued trim command for Samsung 850 Pro SSDs has also been blacklisted. Furthermore, several packages have been updated to newer or improved versions, such as ClamAv, Caja, Debian Installer, DBus, GNOME Shell, GnuTLS, Perl, php and systemd. The entire changelog can be found here.
Notable additions to the stable Debian Jessie released on April 25 was the ability to install the Mate and Cinnamon desktop environments. The release also included improved support for uefi.
