Corsair shows water cooling for video cards

In his usual dark hotel room, Corsair showed its latest products during Computex. In addition to the already announced small version of the Carbide Air, the company showed the Graphite 780T and 380T and water cooling for video cards.

Corsair showed a water cooler for video cards, where an existing all-in-one set can be reused. The original fan of a video card can also be recycled, so that extra air can flow over the pwn and memory. The bracket that makes this possible should cost about 40 euros. According to Corsair, this is how the video card can really do its job, because air coolers often perform insufficiently. The HG10, as the cooler is called, is still a prototype.

The most benefit would be AMD cards: they regulate the clock speed in response to the temperatures of the video card. Nvidia cards adjust clock speeds based on power consumption so that they benefit less from lower temperatures. With a 290X, the GPU remained about 35 degrees cooler than with the stock cooler, while the VRMs also remained considerably cooler. This results in less ‘throttling’ of the GPU, so that the clock speed does not always have to be reduced for a short time to prevent overheating. In the Valley benchmark, this resulted in almost ten percent better performance.

The small version of the Carbide Air has been given type number 240 and is a compact mitx housing. If desired, the 380 can be used in portrait or landscape mode: the Corsair logo can then be rotated. The hot parts such as motherboard and video card are built into an upper compartment, where airflow provides cooling. Less hot parts such as power supply and drives are located in the lower compartment. There is ample space for air and water cooling and a window provides a view of the components.

The two new Graphite cases are shown in two variants: a large one for atx motherboards and a small mitx version. The 780T is the large version and features side panels with buttons as a closing mechanism. The same design, but in a smaller size for mitx boards, can be found in the 380T. Both side panels are easy to remove and fitted with Plexiglas. The housings should be available around August, with the itx housing costing about 80 euros.
