Chrome will soon be able to block notifications from websites that want to show notifications. The browser will determine through machine learning whether or not notifications from certain websites are wanted. According to Google, the processing of the data takes place on the device itself.

Google suggests that in the future Chrome will keep track of how a user has reacted to similar notifications in the past from websites that want to show browser notifications. The company does not specify any criteria for the analysis and no version number of the Chrome browser, but emphasizes that the analysis and assessment will be made entirely on-device.

The company will also use machine learning to automatically change Chrome toolbar buttons to function buttons that an individual user uses most at any given time. Google gives the use of voice typing as an example and states that the icon for it can automatically appear in Chrome’s toolbar to replace the standard buttons. The bar can also still be adjusted manually and the analysis will only be done on the device.
