Chrome gets warning function if web form is sent unsecured

From the M86 build, Chrome will get a warning if users try to fill out and submit a web form on a secure https page, while the form is being submitted in an unsecured manner.

Google calls this mixed forms, where forms on https websites are not sent in accordance with the https standard. The company states that this poses a risk to the security and privacy of the internet user, for example because the information entered may be visible to third parties, so that malicious parties can view or modify sensitive information.

To avoid this, Chrome will have a feature to highlight these risks. For example, the autofill option is disabled for mixed forms and users will see a visible warning in red text when filling in, indicating that the form is not secure. If the Chrome user then still wants to submit the form, a full warning page will follow. It is then possible to still submit the form.

Previously mixed forms were only marked by removing the lock icon in the address bar. According to Google, users did not find this clear and therefore the risks were not properly communicated.
