Google has added HDR support for Chrome on Windows 10. HDR support for the browser on other platforms will follow shortly. In addition, official support for VR display will be coming to Chrome in the near future.

Users of the latest version of Chrome on Windows 10 and a monitor with HDR support can faithfully display HDR images, according to Google. The move follows support for HDR in YouTube apps for select devices and for Android.

It is not yet known when Chrome on Android will receive HDR support. In December there were already indications that this support was on the way, but Google now reports that HDR rendering in Chrome for platforms other than Windows 10 will follow shortly. Chrome isn’t the first browser on Windows 10 to have that support: Microsoft’s Edge already has it.

Furthermore, Google announces that Chrome will soon receive official support for VR display. Test versions of Chrome have had experimental support for the WebVR API since 2016, and since early last year, the browser has worked in conjunction with the Cardboard goggles, alongside Daydream and Samsung VR. More VR glasses should be added in the short term.
