Cherry has announced new switches for mechanical keyboards optimized for speed. The first keyboards with the Cherry MX Speed switches are the K65 Rapidfire and the K70 Rapidfire from Corsair.

With a short actuation point of 1.2mm and a force required of only 45 centinewtons to reach this point, the Speed switches would work 40 percent faster than standard Cherry MX switches, Cherry claims. These are linear switches that are similar to the MX Red switches, but with less key travel. Cherry comes with black-silver versions and transparent RGB models.

The first keyboards to be equipped with the switches are the K70 and K65 Rapidfire from Corsair. Both come in an illuminated RGB version on the market, but the K70 Rapidfire also comes in a version with only red backlighting. The K70 contains 104 keys, the K65 is a tenkeyless model.
