Canon is working on 120-megapixel SLR and 8k video camera
Canon has announced that it is working on a number of new high-end products, including an SLR camera in the EOS series that has a sensor with a resolution of 120 megapixels. In addition, there will be a Cinema EOS System 8K video camera and 8k reference screen.
The 120-megapixel SLR will come in the EOS series and will be compatible with Canon’s interchangeable EF lenses, the manufacturer promises. Incidentally, Canon mentions a resolution of ‘almost’ 120 effective megapixels in its message. Canon does not provide further details about the camera. So far, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R are the Canon SLRs with the most megapixels: 50.
The Cinema EOS System 8K camera gets a super35mm equivalent sensor, which allows the camera to shoot images at a resolution of 8192×4320 pixels at 60fps. The manufacturer mentions a dynamic range of 13 stops. The EOS System 8K also features support for Canon’s EF range of lenses.
Finally, Canon comes with a reference monitor with 8k resolution. Canon does not report the screen diagonal, but does mention a ppi value of 300, which means that it would be a 30.8 “screen, based on an 8k resolution of 8192×4320 pixels.
Canon does not report any information such as technical details, availability and prices for any of the devices. The images are also said to be ‘illustrative’ only.
