Canon has introduced the EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM. The 1:1 macro lens is suitable for SLR cameras with an aps-c sensor and has a ring of LEDs on the front to illuminate the subject.

The lens construction consists of ten elements in seven groups and the diaphragm has seven blades. IS image stabilization is built-in, which should provide up to four stops of compensation. For autofocus, Canon has equipped the 35mm with a stepper motor. The compact macro lens does not extend while focusing.

The small macro lens can take pictures at a magnification of 1:1. This means that an object of, for example, 1 cm wide is also recorded exactly 1 cm wide on the sensor. To achieve that magnification, photography must be taken from the minimum focusing distance of 3cm, measured from the front of the lens.

The 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM weighs 190 grams, is 56mm long and has a diameter of 69mm. At the front is a 49mm filter thread. Canon gives its new macro lens for aps-c cameras a suggested retail price of 439.99 euros.

Together with the macro lens, Canon introduces a new compact camera: the PowerShot SX730 HS with 40x optical zoom. The device is equipped with a 20.3 megapixel sensor of the 1/2.3 “format. The stabilized lens has a range of 24-960 mm converted to 35 mm and an aperture of f/3.3-6.9. The 3 “screen can be folded upwards for taking selfies. The SX730 HS has dimensions of 110x64x40mm and weighs 300 grams. The camera has a suggested retail price of 409.99 euros.
