Bulgarian police take website cracker group Revolt offline – update
Voksi, the hacker famous for releasing many cracks for Denuvo-drm protected games, seems to be missing. Neither TorrentFreak nor Voksi acquaintances can contact him and the website of his cracker group Revolt has also disappeared.
TorrentFreak writes that no one has heard from Voksi since Tuesday, which would be abnormal for the man. According to the TorrentFreak editors, he would ‘rarely rest’, but he can still not be found in any of his regular places on the web. That in itself would not be a cause for great concern, but at the same time, the website of his cracking group Revolt is also down. If you now navigate to the url revolt.group, you will receive a redirect to the website of the Ministry of the Interior of Voksi’s home country Bulgaria. Further text and explanation about the redirect is missing.
Voksi makes it his mission to crack Denuvo-protected games. Although the software is one of the strongest in the history of game drm, Voksi and Revolt have gotten the hang of it for a while, although the Austrian security developer continues to develop, of course, with the aim of cracking every times as long as possible. This results in an endless arms race between the two sides.
Denuvo is regularly criticized for the aggression of the software. For example, it hinders the use of graphic modding software such as ReShade and fan-created patches and mods. In addition, gamers are concerned about the future-proofing of the software, as Denuvo sometimes requires that contact be made with an activation server. In addition, there are sometimes also performance degradations due to the system resources that Denuvo consumes during gameplay. It does happen that developers patch Denuvo from their games after it has been cracked, to prevent buyers from having to contend with the disadvantages and illegal downloaders not.
Update, 19:38: TorrentFreak writes that they managed to get in touch with Voksi. The Bulgarian police raided him following a report from Denuvo. “His days as a cracker are numbered,” the site writes. More details would follow.
