The screen edges of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 Pro series will be approximately thirty percent smaller. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reports this based on his own sources. The tech giant uses lipo screens to achieve this.

The screen edges of Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are reduced from approximately 2.2mm to 1.5mm, writes Gurman in his weekly Power On newsletter. The company uses screens that are produced with lipo technology, or low-injection pressure over-molding, reports the journalist who is known for his good sources within Apple.

Apple first used that technique to reduce the screen bezels of the Apple Watch Series 7 watches and now wants to do the same with its most expensive iPhones. In the long term, Apple would also like to use lipo screens in iPads. There were already rumors going around that the screen edges of the iPhone 15 Pro series will be reduced.

Furthermore, Gurman confirms other specifications of the iPhone 15 series, almost all of which have already been mentioned in previous rumors. For example, all phones in the iPhone 15 series exchange Apple’s own Lightning connector for a USB-C port. In addition, this year’s ‘non-Pro’ iPhone 15 phones will get a Dynamic Island instead of a regular notch for the Face ID hardware and selfie camera. The A16 SoC from the iPhone 14 Pro series is also being ported to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

This time the iPhone 15 Pro phones will have a titanium frame instead of stainless steel. The inside of the Pro models is also being modified, Gurman reports. The internal structure will be similar to that of the iPhone 14 non-Pro phones, which will be easier to repair. This year, the Pro phones will also receive a SoC that is produced on TSMC’s 3nm process, which was also mentioned in previous rumors. The planned haptic buttons have been removed from the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, but the alert slider has been exchanged for an action button, just like on the Apple Watch. Its function can be customized by users.
