Baby Shark is now the most viewed YouTube video ever

At the end of 2012, Psy’s song Gangnam Style hit the then ‘magical’ limit of 1 billion views YouTube. The next milestone came in 2014 when the song hit the 2 billion views mark. Then in 2017 there was the song Despacito that broke all records. And they have been saying that for a long time. Despacito’s counter is above the 7 billion! Yet it is no longer the most viewed video on YouTube. Despacito has been thrown off the throne by a children’s song.

Baby Shark

This catchy nursery rhyme (sorry all parents nowadays who sometimes go crazy with the tune) was the first video ever to hit the 7.04 billion views mark. At the time of writing, the video on YouTube has 7,050,031,676 views.

The song was recorded by Korean-American singer Hope Segoine, produced by South Korean Pinkfog, and posted to YouTube on June 17, 2016.

Very recognizable

It has since become one of the world’s most recognizable tunes.

Earlier this year, a new version of “Baby Shark” was also recorded to promote good hand hygiene in the context of the coronavirus pandemic : Wash your hand’s doo doo doo doo doo!
