Audi: a quarter of our cars will be hybrid or electric within ten years
In ten years, 25 percent of all cars sold by Audi worldwide will be hybrid or fully electric. That is what Scott Keogh, president of Audi America, says. In 2018, the brand will launch its first fully electric car; the Audi Q6 etron.
Keogh made the statement at the Los Angeles Auto Show, VentureBeat writes. He also announced that the introduction of Audi’s first all-electric car in the US will be accompanied by the provision of a 150kW fast charging network. The CEO did not give specific details about this network, nor is it known whether it will be available in other parts of the world. He also suggests that more fully electric models are on the way.
Currently, Audi does not yet offer plug-in hybrids in the US, but that will change this year with the introduction of the A3 e-tron. More hybrid versions of other popular Audi models should follow soon, including the Q7. Audi has been selling hybrid cars in Europe since 2011.
The Audi e-tron Quattro Concept, the fully electric model that is still being worked on, is an SUV that is positioned between the Q7 and Q5. The model will receive a li-ion battery with a capacity of 95 kWh, good for a range of more than 500 km. Three electric motors deliver a total power of 320kW, or 435hp. There is also a boost mode in which more than 500 hp and 800 Nm of torque is available for a short time. In this mode, the sprint from 0-100 km/h takes 4.6 seconds.
