Under its gaming brand Republic of Gamers, Asus has announced its latest power supply, the Thor. The 1200W power supply has integrated a display, which shows in real time how much power the power supply delivers. The company is also working on an 850W variant.

The Thor is a platinum certified power supply, with of course fully modular cables. The cables are individually sleeved and the Thor is designed as a single-rail power supply. The eye-catching feature is the OLED screen that shows the power delivered by the power supply in real time. All dc outputs are added together and rounded off in whole watts.

In addition to the OLED screen, the Thor power supply is equipped with RGB lighting, of course compatible with Asus’ Aura Sync. The power supply is semi-passive: large aluminum heatsinks have to dissipate the heat effectively and the IP5X Wing fan only starts running when the temperature exceeds fifty degrees Celsius.

The 1200W power supply should hit the market in late August, early September and will be priced comparable to other 1200W power supplies. This means that the price can vary between roughly two hundred and three hundred euros. About a month after the ROG Thor 1200W, an 850W version should appear, which is intended for systems without sli or crossfire. The 850W power supply must also receive 80Plus platinum certification.
