Camera manufacturer Arlo releases its Pro 5 security camera in Europe. The main difference with its predecessor is that the Pro 5 has a 12-bit camera sensor. The device costs 250 euros.

The Arlo 5 Pro security camera has a 12bit sensor. The previous model, the Pro 4, still had a 10-bit sensor. With this sensor, the new model gets a larger color range, which, according to the manufacturer, ensures that the camera can take better shots at night. The resolution of the camera sensor has remained the same at 2560×1440 pixels.

According to Arlo, the Pro 5 has a battery life that is up to thirty percent longer than that of its predecessor. In addition, the camera has a ‘low power mode’ function that should lead to a fifty percent longer battery life, claims Arlo. Unlike its predecessor, the new model uses dual-band WiFi and therefore supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies.

The Pro 5 also supports the Arlo Secure app and Arlo’s cloud storage plans, which the company will raise prices soon. Arlo users can also view seven days of images via the cloud without a paid subscription. Users with an Arlo Base Station or a SmartHub with USB connection can also save their camera images locally.

The new device will be available through Arlo from March 13 and costs 250 euros. The camera will be available through other online stores on April 1. The 5 Pro appears to be a European version of the Arlo 5S Pro, which previously appeared in the United States.
