Apple has started offering developer kits for its Vision Pro VR glasses. App developers can now request such a dev kit to borrow. The VR glasses will be officially released in the US early next year for $3,499.

Apple offers the Vision Pro dev kits from Monday 24 July. Developers who are assigned a developer kit will be sent it to borrow. They then receive help with setting up the device and further onboarding. Developers also get “check-ins with Apple experts” who can provide assistance with UI design and development and app refinement. Apple also offers two additional support requests, with which the tech giant helps developers resolve problems in their code.

Not all developers are eligible for a developer kit. Developers must be part of the Apple Developer program, among other things. They must also provide details about their existing apps and the ‘development skills’ of their teams and agree to Apple’s terms. When distributing dev kits, the tech giant gives priority to developers who create an app that ‘uses the functions and capabilities of visionOS’.

Apple also holds Vision Pro developer labs in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo. Developers can test and optimize their apps there with the help of Apple for use with a Vision Pro. They must bring their own Mac, code and other supplies needed to run apps on a Vision Pro.
