Apple and SAP are jointly developing an SDK for SAP’s HANA Cloud Platform. It allows developers to create business apps for iPhones and iPads that work on the German company’s internet platform.

The new SDK should be available to developers before the end of the year and training materials should be ready for working with the software development kit. With the collaboration, Apple and SAP want to ensure that the HANA Cloud Platform becomes more attractive for use with iPhones and iPads.

HANA Cloud Platform is SAP’s platform-as-a-service for business apps, analytics services, collaboration tools, and security functionality. The platform works hand in hand with Business Suite 4 SAP HANA, or SAP S/4HANA, for financial services and business management. SAP itself states that it will also develop apps for business operations with Apple’s Swift.

The collaboration should give Apple more foothold in the business market. Apple has been working on making iOS more attractive for business environments for some time now. The company previously announced partnerships with IBM and Cisco, among others, and Apple has also released Pro versions of its iPads, especially for business use.
