AMD will release the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in the spring. That is the first and for the time being the only consumer processor with 3D V-Cache. According to AMD, the addition of this ensures better performance in games.

Ryzen CPU with 3D V-Cache

With its own figures, AMD shows during its CES presentation that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D performs on average 15 percent better than the Ryzen 9 5900X in games at a 1080p resolution. The results vary by game, with outliers of up to 36 percent. The CPU with 3D V-Cache is also faster in games than Intel’s Core i9-12900K, according to AMD.

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D has eight cores with a maximum speed of 4.5GHz. That’s slightly slower than the regular Ryzen 7 5800X which goes up to 4.7GHz. In addition to the 32MB of regular cache, the new model has 64MB of 3D V-Cache. That’s cache memory stacked on top of the chip. The tdp is the same at 105W. The clock speeds may be slightly lower to keep the tdp the same.

AMD first showed a Ryzen processor with stacked cache in July last year and already promised it would come to market. In November, AMD also announced the third generation of EPYC server processors with 3D V-Cache.

Whether AMD comes with more Ryzen processors with 3D V-Cache is unknown. So far, only the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has been announced. That processor can be used in regular AM4 motherboards. The CPU should be on the market in the spring of this year. That points to a release in the second quarter. The suggested retail price has not yet been announced.
