Adobe to release ‘full’ Photoshop version for iPad

Adobe says it will release a full version of its Photoshop software for the iPad. That will happen next year, the manufacturer says at its own conference Adobe Max. Until now, only a stripped-down Photoshop was available for the tablet.

This is a change in Adobe’s strategy, according to a blog post from the software maker. In addition, it wants to release Photoshop on ‘new operating systems and form factors’, without the American company saying which they are. That should happen in the coming years.

Photoshop for the iPad is based on the same code as the desktop version, but has an interface adapted for touchscreens. For example, the entire menu structure that is on the desktop at the top of the image is not included. Also, some functions for animations, for example, are missing in the current version.

Users can sync PSD files through Creative Cloud, making it possible to start and finish an edit on the iPad and on a desktop. Adobe has not yet determined whether users will have to pay extra for Photoshop on the iPad when the program comes out next month. It is also unknown if it will be available standalone.

In addition to Photoshop, Adobe announced more at its Max conference, such as Project Aero for creating projects in augmented reality and Project Gemini, a painting app for the iPad.
