AdBlock and Adblock Plus release update to YouTube bug

The developers of AdBlock and Adblock Plus respectively released updates this week to fix a bug that prevented YouTube from working properly, among other things. The updates for the browser extensions can now be installed.

The companies behind it Adblock Plus and AdBlock report in almost exactly the same blog posts that the delay in using YouTube should be resolved. Versions 3.22.1 and 5.17.1 for Adblock Plus and AdBlock respectively should fix the problem. The two ad blockers were developed independently of each other but have been from the same parent company, Eyeo, since 2021. The ad blockers work in a similar way, namely by hiding elements and blocking connections to ad servers.

On Monday, it was initially believed that Google was using the YouTube slowdown to presumably persuade users to sign up for YouTube subscriptions. The video platform reportedly did this before. The company, on the other hand, refuted this and stated that the delays had nothing to do with the applied adblock detection. An AdBlock developer acknowledged this and the problem should now be resolved.
